Olcott Beach was founded by Burgoyne Kemp. It was known as Kempville. However, a Thomas Olcott owned much of the property there and, sometime after 1820, had the hamlet named after himself.
Boating

Public boat launch sites at the Newfane Town Marina, on the west side of the Olcott harbor are available for those who come with boat and motor. There is also docking available here, long and short term, for those with cabin cruisers and larger boats. A number of enterprises offer boat charters, primarily for fishing. Docking facilities and boats can also be rented, long and short term, from a number of private businesses.
Fishing

The major fishing area is at Olcott and off the shore there in Lake Ontario. Lake access is through a number of public and private marina and boat launch sites. Charter boats are also available. There are also a number of areas to fish off the shore the most popular of which is the Olcott Pier and Harbor (Route 78 at Route 18) Lake fishing at and off Olcott include catches of Salmon, Trout, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Perch, and Walleye Pike.

Fisherman's Park is located on the west side of Route 78, between the Village of Newfane and Olcott at Burt (near the Burt Dam) with access to 18-mile creek. Fish caught in this area include Rainbow and Brown Trout, Walleye Pike, Northern Pike, Perch, and Salmon. There is also fishing at other areas along 18-mile creek all north of Olcott, where public access areas permit. Where the creek is cross by Route 78 and other highways, fishing is popular from bridges.

Niagara County produces a full brochure with maps showing fishing areas and facilities. It is free for the asking and available at most information areas and directly from the County offices in Lockport.
Krull Park

Niagara County operates Krull Park at Olcott. This is a large 120-acre park, right on Lake Ontario with a long stretch of picnic grounds with some shelters. The public beach itself is on the lake side of the park for swimming. During the summer, there is an occasional concert in the park. See the calendar of events. There are also facilities for basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and a kid's playground. There are several scenic lake overlooks here.
Party-Making

Let's get right to the point. Olcott Beach was once a great honky-tonk which has lost many, but not most of its facilities for party-making. There are several bars here which cater to a young to fairly old crowd of hearty seasonal drinkers. Don't bother bringing your manners. Party-making at Olcott Beach watering holes is not a "family activity." Try to arrange to have "the day after" off from work. In the summer, Olcott Beach is a "regular stop" for motorcycle men and "their mamas."

The Van Horn Mansion On Route 78 at Burt, NY on the south side of the main entrance to Akzo Chemical. Built in 1823 and now under restoration it is usually open for tours on Sunday afternoons, 2-4 p.m. during the warm weather months. It is a project of the Newfane Historical Society.
