The Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce

131 North Bell
405-273-6092

The mission of the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce is to create and maintain a favorable business climate in the community. In order to accomplish this mission, the chamber engages in a pro-active Program of Work that includes the following:

Promoting and marketing local businesses to the central Oklahoma region and in the national marketplace. This is accomplished through the Chamber's business information and referrals program, relocation packets, the Shawnee Lifestyle Magazine, the Shawnee business Guide, the Chamber web site, "Spotlight on Shawnee," a bi-monthly radio program, the Chamber newsletter, the Tinker Air Force Base Quarterly Awards program, Chamberbucks, advertising opportunities (such as the City Map, Lifestyle Magazine, banners, sponsorships, etc.), the Member-to-Member Discount Program, networking opportunities (including Business After Hours, ribbon cuttings and grand openings), merchant promotions, visitor development and annual business awards.

Providing current, valuable business information for local businesses through the Shawnee Business Council. This is accomplished through seminars and workshops. The chamber also arranges free, one-on-one meetings for local business people with either of two professional business counselors.

Maintaining a strong local quality of life through leadership development, adopt-a-school and adopt-a-class programs, beautification efforts, community special events, legislative briefings and forums and meeting with local, state and national elected officials to promote legislation that will positively impact our community.

The Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce is a coalition of businesses, citizens and organizations whose owners and members seek to address common community concerns through volunteer leadership.

A five-member Executive Committee and a Board of Directors govern the Chamber. The Board of Directors includes eighteen persons elected from the Chamber's membership and a representative from city government. There are eleven ex-officio directors that include representatives from area schools, affiliate organizations and local state legislators.

The Chamber is organized under the leadership of six Division Chairs for the purpose of coordinating its Program of Work. The incoming Board Chairman selects the division chairs for the Business and Industry Development, Community Improvement, Education, Government Policies and Chamber Organization Divisions. The six Divisions are further organized into committees and a Program of Work is developed. The Tourism Advisory Committee selects their committee chair.
