Mission

The mission of the Community is long-term care for all ages depending on needs. The care of human beings for one another asks for the growth of all involved, and it is growth and individual unfolding that is cherished by all. As is now well known, a healthy normalizing setting is therapeutic for long-term care of those who are ill. In addition, in this setting, the emphasis is on joy and productivity while multifaceted work activities are emphasized. Since inactivity, pathologically so, is characteristic of many who age, there is in this therapeutically oriented community an emphasis on vitalizing and integrating needed activities. Because human depths surface in this setting with lively social encounters involving all ages through health, illness and even death, much effort is given to the understanding of human nature. The evolving of individual capacities, abilities, skills, and characteristics at all stages in life is supported whenever it is humanly possible to fathom these human depths. It is for this reason that education and learning are so much a part of the life of this community. Learning and unfolding is seen in the context of the whole of life, from birth to death and beyond. A further goal is to serve those with long term needs so that economic demands can be met by those who are not wealthy, even though some may be. This asks for new economic considerations which have been ongoing since inception of the community.
