Riverdale Elementary's Historical Past
Riverdale Elementary School dates back to 1870. The first school to be built was a one room wooden structure known as "Daisy Plains" which was located approximately one mile south of the present site. Over the eighty-six years between 1870 and 1956, several structures were built and destroyed.

The school grew from one room to two rooms to a four room brick building which was destroyed by fire in 1937. The present site consists of five separate buildings.

The present Riverdale Elementary School structure was built over a period of forty-five years. The oldest section of the school was constructed in 1956. In 1959 through 1960 eight classrooms, storage rooms, and a cafeteria were added. The present third grade hall was built in 1967 with the K-2 building added in 1971. An additional two classrooms and air-conditioning were added in 1980. An art room, a music room, and a gym were completed in 1988. During 2000-2001 eight classrooms were added and the entire building was remodeled to better meet the needs of our students. Riverdale Elementary now contains a total of forty-two classrooms, a library, a lunchroom, a gym, and five offices.
