MisMatch & YooHoo are magical clowns, with powers that extend beyond entertaining to a level of healing. Their promise is to bring smiles to every party and that includes sharing their time with the homeless veterans at the Salvation Army outpost in the Northport VA. The connection began when MisMatch (Carol Klein) was hired to perform at the Northport V.A. Winter Festival. She enjoyed the time she spent with the veterans so much she decided to come back and bring some family and friends. While Carol and her son (and performing partner), Garrett delighted the veterans with balloon workshops their friends and family donated their time and talents teaching origami and yoga, baking cookies and supplying dinners for the vets from local restaurants. Word began to spread and the Milleridge Inn in Jericho was kind enough to donate a dinner for a night out, which gave Carol and her family an idea: Why not formalize this function and see if we can get others to follow suit, so they created Heroes Night Out Honoring Our Homeless Veterans One Night at a Time. Once they started to reach out to other performers and business owners the offers started to come forward. Rich Walker, a local comedian brought some friends to make everyone laugh and then two improv groups visited for a night of fun. The Center Lane Pizzeria in Levittown held a fundraiser, donating half the profits for a future heroes night out. The Commack Bowling Alley donated a night of bowling and the Port Jefferson Theater Three has offered tickets for any Thursday night play the group wants to see! Kindness it seems is contagious. Future scheduled performances include an improv group on May 19 and on June 15, Jungle Bob will bring his reptiles for an educational visit. The big-hearted duo behind MisMatch & YooHoo, the magical clowns are Carol Klein and her son Garrett, from Levittown who have been performing together for the past 17 years. Carol and her son, Garrett put some extra TLC into every show they perform, creating it especially to please their audience. They've delighted young and old alike at parties, picnics, libraries, camps, corporate parties and senior living homes. Their dedication and genuine concern for doing what they can to help make the lives of the homeless veterans passing through the Salvation Army facility a little bit happier is what makes them American Towns Heroes. Carol felt a connection with these brave men and women, saw a need and stepped up to do something about it, by creating Heroes Night Out Honoring Our Homeless Veterans One Night at a Time, which looks for ways to host and entertain the veterans. What started as one performance at the Northport V.A. Winter Festival has turned into a regular event, thanks to Carol Klein. You can help keep Heroes Night Out running by sponsoring a show or volunteering your talent for a performance. Get in touch with Carol at 516-579-6524
