New Community Church

210 West Morgan Street

About Us :

New Community is very traditional. In fact, our goal is to promote the only tradition that really matters: God's truth as delivered to the apostles. Our final authority on all matters of faith and practices is the Bible, which we hold to be the perfect word of God in the original manuscripts. The central truths of Christianity that we embrace - the divinity of Jesus Christ, His atoning death on the cross as the only payment for our sins, His resurrection and glorious return, our need for the indwelling Holy Spirit in order to live the new life, and so on - put us in agreement with the vast majority of Bible-believing Christians.

In matters of format and style, however, New Community is very nontraditional. There is no particular way of doing church that is, in itself, sacred. Our only guideline is to ask: "Does this honor God? Does this help God's people to more faithfully respond to His love and grace? Is this the way God would have it?" The answers to these questions are matters of conscience, and should not form the basis of fellowship between believers.

The reason we sit at tables, for example, is simply our way of making the experience more comfortable for those who aren't familiar with traditional style church services. But we never compromise or edit the content of the gospel message to make people feel more comfortable. We don't shy away from presenting the whole counsel of God. And, we won't place traditions, including our own, over the preeminent task of making disciples.

For every person who joins New Community Church, our goal is to see them reach full maturity in Christ. We do not believe our job is done at conversion. On the contrary, conversion is only the beginning of a lifelong process of growing in Christ-likeness. Our mission is to make fully-devoted followers of Jesus, and we do not settle for less.
