Mason School District is an "Excellent" district, and has been for seven consecutive administrations of the Ohio Report Card. The district earned 25/25 standards on the State's 2005-06 Report Card. It ranks seventh in the state (of 613 districts) for overall student performance. Four of its six schools boast national Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence awards, and the Mason Early Childhood Center has earned National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation.

Students in Mason City Schools learn in grade-specific buildings. Mason City Schools currently has an early childhood center (pre-k, k, 1), two elementary schools (2-3), an intermediate campus (4-6), a middle school (7-8) and high school (9-12). William Mason High School is a four-year public high school accredited by the North Central Association. In September 2006, the district opened the new Early Childhood Center for grades k-1. In September 2002, the district opened the new high school for grades 9-12.

There is an average of 22 students per teacher in the district (K-12). There are 2.6 students per computer in the district.
