History:

The Lawrenceville Lions Club was originally organized January 29, 1941 and received its charter February 18, 1941. The club set its bi-monthly meetings for the second and fourth Tuesday nights at the Button Gwinnett Hotel, located at the corner of Crogan and Perry Streets in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Thomas O. Davis, a local attorney, was the first president of the club and R. Frank Malsby, the first secretary. The club was short lived, however, because most of the members were also members of the Lawrenceville Home Guard, and most of the Home Guard volunteered for active duty in the armed forces after Pearl Harbor was attacked December 7, 1941. The club became inactive May 15, 1941. In the words of our State Historian, Lion Eugene Sanders, it was "one of the few clubs which succumbed to patriotism."

The Lawrenceville Lions Club was reorganized February 19, 1946 and received its new charter March 16, 1946. R. P. Smith was charter president and F. O. Jordan was charter Secretary/Treasurer.
