History:
Kanoheda Elementary school opened in the Fall of 1994 in the Berkmar Cluster of Gwinnett County. We are located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. We have grades K-5 and currently have about 1100 students enrolled. We are a very multi-cultural school with countries from Latin America to Asia and everywhere in between represented. The diversity of the school allows us to appreciate and understand many cultures, and hopefully makes us more understanding when interacting with new people.

Our school name comes from a Cherokee Indian word meaning "Truths Passed Through Generations". The land on which the school is situated was once occupied by Creek Indians. Trying to keep the history of the area, a Cherokee Indian name was chosen. Our mascot is the American kestrel. This bird, the smallest of the falcon family, can be found in rural areas of North America. The kestrel was chosen because of its natural colors, turquoise, rust, and black, and the habitat of the kestrel seemed to fit with the Creek and Cherokee Indian theme. The school colors used to be turquoise and maroon, but have changed to burgundy, khaki and hunter green.
