Mission:

BCAS is committed to the introduction and performance of the highest quality choral literature from the past and present. BCAS will develop, enrich, and entertain present and future singers and audiences, as well as provide affordable concerts in a variety of accessible venues.

History:

Founded in 1966 by Robert F. Schulz, the Buffalo Choral Arts Society, a 100+ voice community chorus, has steadily established itself as an integral part of Buffalo’s music-loving community. Its many performance venues and varied repertoire are hallmarks of this WNY arts organization. The membership of the chorus reflects the diversity of the community it serves. In its ranks are educators as well as students, executives, librarians, doctors, lawyers, technicians, and many other professions.

The 2011 - 2012 Concert Season, in addition to being it’s 46th season, marks its 25th Anniversary under the direction of Marcia A. Giambrone. The BCAS performs multiple concerts each year. A traditional favorite with the WNY community is the annual Christmas concert. On the lighter side, the Spring performance offers an array of music from the Broadway stage, Hollywood, and other, contemporary popular tunes. This year’s Spring program, “My Favorite Things”, will honor Ms. Giambrone on her 25th anniversary and feature her favorite selections from the Broadway Stage.

Local Collaboration - A true musical force in WNY, BCAS is proud to have shared the performing spotlight with some of the area’s finest soloists and with many exemplary artistic organizations, such as:Ars Nova Musicians, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Erie County Wind Ensemble, Western New York Children's Chorus, and the Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra.

Choral Ambassadors of Western New York - In 2006, BCAS was invited to share the stage with other national choirs to sing John Rutter’s Mass of the Children at Carnegie Hall under the direction of the composer. Additionally, the chorus has performed in a variety of international venues including: Mozarteum - Salzburg, Austria; Notre Dame de Paris - Paris, France; Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial - 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion - Normandy, France; Ste. Anne de Beaupré, Quebéc; as well as Dublin, London, Vienna, Provence, Barcelona, and Prague. The summer of 2011 saw the chorus perform on its first American Concert Tour, where they performed in a variety of venues in our Nation’s Capital. The Buffalo Choral Arts Society was extremely proud to have been invited to sing an Evensong Service in the Washington National Cathedral on Sunday, July 3, 2011 as well as performing for our wounded soldiers, their families and staff at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
