The Thurman Fall Farm Tour, just 20 minutes from Lake George Village, will showcase working Adirondack farms—some over 200 years old. Pack up the family for a day of country fun and stellar shopping at the Thurman Fall Farm Tour.

Talks, Farm Tours, Breakfast Snacks and Buffet Lunch, Wagon Rides and Crafts
(Consider bringing a cooler to transport farm purchases.)

Self-guided tours of Thurman’s finest farms, where you’ll find farm tours of both old and new, non-GMO heritage pigs, grass-fed beef, fall vegetables, all-natural poultry and eggs, internationally awarded cheeses, and ice cream, a quilt show,  jams & jellies, maple products, and an artisans’ market. Be sure to have your camera or phone and ready to snap great pictures at each site to post online with #mylgarea #adkfarms #visitThurman.

Make your first stop the quilt show at the Town Hall, open at 9:30, and pick up a directory with a map to guide you to each of the farms (or download ahead of time to plan your day at https://www.visitthurman.com/fall-farm-tour/). Enjoy free open houses at all of the unique farms and sugarhouses with ag-citing activities for all ages. Shop for cheese products, jams, jellies, mushrooms, baked goods, artisans’ wares and organically raised veggies, beef, pork and poultry. There are plenty of kids’ activities; take wagon rides, pet animals, taste maple, cheese and menu items.

Explore a goat and sheep dairy farm, learn about homesteading, sugaring, mushrooms, medicinal plants, and experience country friendliness at its best. Visit an artisan market with demos and unique wares.

Although most sites are open from 10am to 4pm, be sure to check each site’s description as some do vary.  Down load your directory/map ahead of time to help plan your day or pick one up at your fisrt stop. As you drive into Thurman (on route 418 by the Thurman Station, from route 28 at The Glen or off of route 8 on So. Johnsburg Rd.) look for signposts at various intersections directing you to each site.  Plan enough time to see as many of the sites as you can and have a great fun filled day. (Be sure to gas up your vehicle before you arrive in town, as there are no gas stations in Thurman.)

(BH) Blackberry Hill Farm

Blackberry Hill is a diversified family farm.  The farm stand will be open offering up their line of breads, meats and more, plus other local items (like Upper Hudson coffee) and other locally made items.
Plus enjoy a snack with their fresh-out-of= the oven organic soft Bavarian-style pretzels and other treats.

See Blackberry Hill’s cows, pigs, chickens. ducks, goats and-the fan favorites-Jack & Dianne (pot belly pigs) along with the fall veggies currently growing in the  30×96 high tunnel , with discussion on organic growing practices.

Back Country Barn Wood Furniture will be back again with their unique interior furnishings.

(ML) Martin’s Lumber & Lucyann’s Artistry

Artisan market and wood walks:Thurman neighbors and artisans will join together at Martin’s Lumber to welcome guests with a large variety of their art, demonstrations and hands on activities, including mushroom propagation.

Throughout the day guided walks for herbs and mushrooms are planned. Bring home herbs to make infusions for bites and stings, sprains and strains or cuts and scrapes (times to be announce) and join in one of the walks to find and learn about mushrooms.  Follow clues for a self-guided tree walk to a camp fire in the woods and a blacksmith demonstration.  #15 Clue in Warren County’s Letterboxing Passport.

Sample and buy: maple creams, candy, glazed walnuts, infused syrups and fresh-out-of- the-barrel best seller – Bourbon Maple Syrup. Free maple coffee. Kids’ activities: leaf rubbings, leaf collcting, coloring books, nature walk.

(NM) Nettle Meadow Farm
484 South Johnsburg Rd. – 10am -4pm

The farm opens at 10 for tours on the half hour that will include visits to horses, mini-horses, mini-donkeys, pot belly pigs, goats, sheep, peacocks, all sorts of farm fowl, a llama, and miniature and scottish highland cows, as well as a smattering of barn cats.  All are friendly and look forward to visitors, with the exception, perhaps, of foonzie the llama and even he is mellowing with age.  They will have a few cheese sample offerings up near the cheese shop at the entrance to the farm, in the open air for safety purposes.  They will offer a kids’ kraft area again this year as well.

Lunch will be served in the barn loft from noon to 2pm.  Cost is $18.00 and will include:

(RA) Rustic Acres Farm

Tour the farm and see all the animals (cows, pigs, chickens, goats, lambs and ducks.

Demonstrations in the forgotten ways of farm life with vintage homesteading items will be on going. This will include growing and harvesting flax linum fiber to be processed into linen fabric, making herbal and spice blends to for cooking and processing apple butter.

Join In the fun of making your own Apple Cider (bring some apples and a jug to take some home).

Coffee, tea, and juice for the children along with muffins and cookies will be available. FREE while they last.

Baked Goods are always available in the kitchen as well as a selection of Meats.

(QS) Thurman Quilt Show
Thurman Town Hall, 311 Athol Rd. – 9:30am – 3:30 pm

See a large display of qulity quilted items made by the local ladies. You can vote for your favorite quilted item just for fun as well as boost the members incentive to continue in this line of work. There will be items to purchase:- coasters, pot holders/hot mats, place mats, table toppers/runners, wall hangings and maybe even some small quilts.  Pick up a First Wilderness Heritage Letterboxing Passport, so you can follow Clue #14 during your tour of the town.

(THM) Toad Hill Maple Farm
137 Charles Olds Rd. – 10pm – 4pm

Sugar house tours. Learn about the process of turning sap to syrup. Enjoy wagon rides over the covered bridge and through the sugarbush.  Visit the farm store stocked with maple products, confections and gifts.

(WF) Whitefield’s Farm
95 Mountain Rd. – 10am – 5pm

Stop by for tractor-drawn hay rides and sausage samples, Take a tour of the old stone barn built in the 1940s as a dude ranch horse stable. Try your hand at pumpkin painting.

(WR) Windy Ridge Farm
52 Elmer Wood Rd. – 10am to 4 pm

Visit this working farm that has been in one family for generations. See Bobwhite quail, turkeys, Minnie the pony, honey bees, and snap a selfie at the photo op spot/ A “through the years” picture board (photos from around the farm from the past through the  present) show some of the history of the farm.  See the portable band saw set-up and an apple grinder and press–ig the deer leave enough apples for cider!
