Groupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester Ignites Inclusive Music Arts Programming In Community Recreation For People With And Without Disabilities

Rochester, NY -- Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester (GCLER) is proud to welcome people with and without disabilities to explore vibrant music arts programs through community partnerships this summer. Working with Perinton Recreation and Parks, Rochester Accessible Adventures, and LatinX, GCLER will celebrate the partnerships with a free event, Percussion Compassion, on July 27, 2022, and will follow this with a series of programs.

Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester is the proud recipient of a Genesee Valley Arts Grant designed to transform our communities and enrich the lives of its members by bridging differences and celebrating creativity. Percussion Compassion helps encourage intercultural dialogue and education within communities, and will specifically create settings that celebrate diversity and inclusion.

“Participants from different cultural backgrounds, including disability, will come together, leave behind all social boundaries, and let the power of music find the equality amongst us all,” says Evelyn D’Agostino, director of GCLER. “We are so excited about these community partnerships that will enable us to intentionally invite people of all ages, with and without disabilities, to celebrate together and transform music into works of art.”

“We are thrilled to host GCLER’s inclusive music programming at Perinton Recreation,” says Kelly Attridge, Assistant Recreation Director and Inclusion Coordinator at Perinton Recreation and Parks. “Our team is committed to creating a culture of inclusion across all of our programming, and GCLER’s multicultural approach to music, including people with disabilities, is a perfect match for our community.”

GCLER will kick off a series of programs on July 24, 1:00 to 2:00 at the International Plaza in 828 N Clinton Avenue, Rochester https://percussioncompassion.eventbrite.com, on July 27, 2022, 5:00 to 7 PM, at Vincent Kennelly Park in Perinton https://percussioncompassioninternatinalplaza.eventbrite.com. This two open house event are free to the public and guests will be invited to join in an evening of percussion and fun.
