Governor Polis Makes Judicial Appointments

DENVER - On May 16, 2024, Governor Polis made judicial appointments to the 19th Judicial District Court, 4th Judicial District Court, and Lincoln County Court in the 18th Judicial District. 

19th Judicial District Court 

Governor Polis appointed Audrey A. Galloway to the 19th Judicial District Court. This appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Meghan Saleebey and is effective immediately.

Ms. Galloway is a District Court Magistrate in the 19th Judicial District, a position she has held since 2019. Her docket consists of juvenile matters. Previously, Ms. Galloway was Partner at Houtchens, Greenfield, Sedlak and Zacheis, LLC (2017-2019); Senior Associate at LawyersWest (2014-2016); Deputy District Attorney in the Weld County District Attorney’s Office (2008-2014); and Staff Attorney at the National Association of Counsel for Children (2006-2008). Ms. Galloway earned her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2001 and her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 2006.

4th Judicial District Court

Governor Polis appointed Hilary A.P. Gurney and Dennis L. McGuire to the 4th Judicial District Court. 

Ms. Gurney’s appointment fills a vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Marla Prudek and is effective June 1, 2024. 

Ms. Gurney is a District Court Magistrate in the 4th Judicial District, a position she has held since 2022. Her docket consists of criminal matters. Previously, she was a Supervising Deputy Public Defender (2019-2022), Senior Deputy Public Defender (2010-2019), and Deputy Public Defender (2007-2010) in the Colorado Springs Office; and Deputy Public Defender in the Steamboat Springs Office (2010-2011).). Ms. Gurney earned her B.S. from the University of Michigan in 2003 and her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 2007.

Mr. McGuire’s appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Scott Sells and is effective July 1, 2024. 

Mr. McGuire is an El Paso County Court Judge in the 4th Judicial District, a position he has held since 2020. His docket consists of criminal and civil matters. Previously, he was a District and County Court Magistrate in the 4th Judicial District (2015-2020); Supervising Deputy State Public Defender (2008-2015), County Court Supervisor (2007-2008), and Deputy State Public Defender (2001-2007) in the Colorado Springs Office. Mr. McGuire earned his B.S. from Northern Arizona University in 1998 and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve School of Law in 2001. 

Lincoln County Court - 18th Judicial District

Governor Polis appointed Miles A. Cabral to the Lincoln County Court in the 18th Judicial District. This appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Truston Lee Fisher and is effective June 1, 2024.

Mr. Cabral is a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Edgewater, a position he has held since 2023. His docket consists of criminal matters. Mr. Cabral is also the owner of the Cabral Law Firm, a position he has held since 2000. His practice consists primarily of criminal defense. Previously, he was Deputy District Attorney at the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2022); Attorney at the Law Office of Andrew Bryant (2022); Assistant City Attorney at the City of Aurora (2021-2022); and Associate Attorney at Al Cabral, P.C. (1998-2000). Mr. Cabral earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado - Boulder in 1994 and his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1997.
