Jackie Venson

Jackie Venson is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter known far and wide for her complexly beautiful music and blazing guitar skills. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jackie has traveled the world playing to massive crowds both as a headliner and as support for major acts such as Gary Clark Jr, Melissa Etheridge, Aloe Blacc, Citizen Cope to name a few. With the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cancellation of her entire tour schedule and the wave of social change sweeping across the country in 2020, Jackie committed herself to releasing more music than ever before, connecting with her fans directly and speaking up about the change she wanted to see in her city and country. Since then, Jackie has released 2 studio albums, 2 live albums under her name and several electronic albums under her side project titled jackie the robot. During the pandemic, Jackie Venson also made her National TV Performance Debut on Austin City Limits 46th season, a huge honor for the native Austinite. Venson’s most recent release, “Love Transcends”, Venson firmly established herself as a sonic force to be reckoned with out of Austin, Texas.

The Ballroom Thieves

The Ballroom Thieves is Calin Peters and Martin Earley. For the last decade the band has focused on an energetic and dynamic live show that features a powerful quartet of searing vocals, drums, bass, electric guitars, and more recently synths. But this winter they’re scaling things back to expose the bones of some of their most well-loved songs on an intimate duo tour.

?The band’s July ’22 release, Clouds, is a song cycle born of mixed experiences and fueled by the power of imagination. The album is a lush meditation on longing to return to touring - to see different sunsets and cities. But, it's also a reflection of its difficulties, such as insomnia brought on by staying in different hotel rooms every night.

As they leaned into their wanderlust, themes became apparent - the idea of a life spent in motion ("Shine"), the power of the storm representing a relationship transformed into heartbreak ("The Lightning"), Man’s ceaseless degradation of resources and Nature’s inevitable fury ("Worldender"), and Harry Styles ("Harry Styles"), who should be considered a force of Nature as far as Peters and Earley are concerned.  Clouds became an opportunity for the band to mine the challenges of the past three years for creative inspiration.

It's an artistic statement that doubles as a life mission. The pair both emphasize that they’ve learned to navigate complicated situations, including their struggles with depression, which often colors their songs. If they can impart anything to listeners, it’s that talking about mental health is not a weakness—and that sharing any of life's trials can be a source of strength.

Spotswood Abbey

Spotswood Abbey is a living room funk band that started as a weekly jam session in 2016. They released their first EP of originals "Bad Dog Runner" last year. You can find them on most streaming platforms.

Jenny Don't and the Spurs

The Spurs were founded one cold, winter’s evening by Jenny and Kelly. Jenny had been fronting her own band, DON’T, for some time, as well as playing the occasional solo acoustic set here and there. Kelly, who had been in a slew of Portland punk bands since the 80’s, and who had spent the previous several years balancing a grueling touring schedule playing drums with the garage rock trio PIERCED ARROWS and bass with Portland punk-rock destroyers P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S., and wanted to switch gears a bit. After the concept of forming a raw, real, and back-to-the-roots country band had taken hold, it wasn’t long before the couple was rehearsing a seminal set of standards by such influential early country crooners and outlaws like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Ernest Tubb, and Hank Sr., as well as a sprinkling of originals. It was only a few weeks later that Kelly’s bandmates Fred and Toody Cole got wind of the developing musical project that was taking form in Jenny and Kelly’s kitchen and decided to call their bluff by giving them an unsolicited support slot on an upcoming show featuring the Cole’s own solo two-piece act. Not having anticipated such a high-profile live appearance as a first live outing, and feeling like the guitar-and-bass-only lineup that the band had started life as was lacking something on the rhythm end of things, they decided to ask their friend Sam Henry to join them on drums. Sam, who in addition to being Jenny’s bandmate in DON’T and sometimes solo-set-collaborator, had already had a long, well-respected career as one of Portland’s best drummers, having played with such first-generation punk bands as the Wipers, The Rats and Napalm Beach. After a couple of weeks of practice, the debut live appearance of the band went off without a hitch and the core lineup of Jenny Don’t and The Spurs was born. The trio of Jenny, Kelly, and Sam existed in this form for the first year-an-a-half or so of the band’s existence, playing whatever local venue would take them – bars, clubs, porches, basements, backyards, and even a bookstore. This worked well for a while, and occasionally the Spurs would enlist talent from a pool of several friends to sit in on lead guitar or lap steel. The addition of a second guitar rounded out the sound of the band to the point where Jenny and Co. decided to make it a permanent part of the band’s lineup. After a couple of false starts and a bit of difficulty finding a fourth member who could commit to the Spur’s sometimes grueling touring schedule, the incredible Christopher March became a member of the family in early 2017. Christopher brought with him a wealth of talent and live gig experience, having spent years playing on the Northwest Country, Rockabilly, and Honky-Tonk circuit.

Tylor and the Train Robber

Boise, ID based band Tylor & the Train Robbers, comprised of Tylor Ketchum, his brothers Jason and Tommy Bushman and his father-in-law Johnny “Shoes” Pisano deliver a perfect, lyric-driven blend of Roots Country and modern Americana music. Paired with their unrelenting dedication to the road, they have earned the reputation of hardworking professionals whose live shows highlight the connectedness that they’ve acquired not only from years of playing together, but also from the family bond that they all share.
?
Their latest album, Non-Typical Find, is the band’s third independently released studio album and marks their first project with producer Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly. The eleven song compilation showcases Ketchum’s songwriting genius with subject material ranging from current events to harrowing tales of dead bodies discovered. The band delivers with the tight, dynamic sound they are known for and, on this album, raises the bar by including a few talented friends whose musical contributions add nuance and texture to the band’s already solid sound. The outcome is an album that is an honest and intriguing blend of Ketchum’s lyrical talent and the musical chemistry of the band.

Maple Bars

?The Maple Bars' meaty riffs, soulful grooves, and psychedelic arrangements make hippies sway, punk kids thrash, and cool kids bob their heads. Having shared the stage with such varied acts as Collective Soul, Otis Heat, Psychic Rites, and Toyboat Toyboat Toyboat, the band is poised to glaze the world with the most soulful, psychedelic hard rock in the land.

No Soap, Radio

?When it comes to the music of No Soap, Radio eclecticism is the name of the game. They take elements from funk, metal, jazz, fusion, progressive rock, and rap to provide a unique and eccentric experience. So whether you like to bang your head, shake that booty, or just sit back and vibe, they are sure to have something for you.

The members of No Soap, Radio are just as eclectic as the music they play. They are teachers, library staff, retail workers, department managers, and audio editors. They come from all walks of life but their passion for music brings them together to create something truly spectacular.
