Spring is in the air, but so is theater!

Wanting to get out and enjoy the springtime?

The Plaza Arts Center has some excellent opportunities to do so.

First up is Kings of Queen - a Queen tribute! You know and LOVE the music, so come experience Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions and so many more hits LIVE at The Plaza on March 23! There are VERY limited tickets, so if you want to be at this rockin’ show, get yours now at plazacenter.org.

For the sports fan in your life, you will be so excited for the Old School History Museum’s unveiling of the newest Sports Wall of Fame! Eatonton, GA, has an amazing history that visitors to the Old School History Museum enjoy regularly. But who would have imagined that this small city could claim eleven athletes who collectively have been enshrined in 29 Sports Halls of Fame! Their sports include football, baseball, basketball, track, golf, and skeet shooting… five are also outstanding coaches! If you live in Eatonton, you may know some of them or their families but didn’t know of their amazing success. Soon you will be able to learn about them through a permanent “Sports Wall of Fame” exhibit created by the Old School History Museum. The Grand Opening of the exhibit will take place at the regular “Sunday At The Museum” event on April 7th, and you are invited to see the exhibit and meet some of the Hall of Famers and their families. Remember that there is no charge for any of the OSHM events, and you are invited to stay after to meet the athletes and enjoy light refreshments!

Next, the Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts, is putting on a performance of the ever-popular, ‘Steel Magnolias.’ The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. This show is sure to be a hit for all audience members. Performances are April 19, 20, 26 & 27 at 7 p.m. and April 21 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.plazacenter.org.

Back again for the third year in a row, The Plaza is putting on a free community springtime celebration. The Plaza’s May Day celebration will take place on April 27 from 10 a.m. until noon. There will be games, free treats and lots of free crafting activities for the entire family to enjoy. This event takes place on the beautiful Plaza lawn and is sure to be a hit with every kiddo! Make plans to attend and start your spring off right!
